Cartier is also famous for its breathtaking jewelry designs and for the wristwatches they use the finest stainless steel, two tone, 18K rose, yellow and white gold, and platinum using high grade often flawless diamonds, sapphire cabochons and gemstones. In 1917 the Cartier watchmaking division released the first tank watch in honor of Allied tank units that helped liberate France during the First World War. In 1904, the Cartier watch model Santos became the first wristwatch manufactured for men after a request from Brazil pilot and aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont. The Cartier Swiss Watch Company was founded in Paris France by Louis-Francois Cartier in 1847 and their headquarters remain there today as well.
